Well...this day is notoriously one of my favorites...because in addition to our lovely Oberndorf Day Trip, CSA has it's AUSTRIAN FOLKDANCE EVENING!!!
Our trip to Oberndorf was a delight...seeing and actually standing in the tiny chapel where the world famous "Silent Night, Holy Night" Christmas song was written and first performed was surreal and wonderful. The group also went to the Oberndorf Chapel Museum, and Christiana, our peppy blonde guide, also treated the group to some additional and unplanned stops - including one to a beautiful church. This trip is just a morning trip, so the group was back at the school by 1PM. Everyone that went marveled the delightful town of Oberndorf..
That afternoon, most had classes in the school (Dr. D. took her students to Innsbruck for the day), and there was just enough time to get some dinner before our evening events. First, the KINGWOOD POPS, performed for us, inside tthe school's main hall, this is a group of musicians (not professionals, just people who love to play music, and travel) from Kingwood, Texas (near Houston) that travel around to various villages and towns throughout Germany and Austria and perform. Their program was a mix of various songs from American plays, musicals, and movies...everything from the theme from Star Wars, to jazz. It was fun.
Then our usual Austrian folk dance group arrived, they are a young group from Eugendorf (a village on the other side of Salzburg) and they are always WONDERFUL! They danced outside, at the school's entrance (a perfect setting, because it is cool, and comfortable, and our Untersberg mountain is in the background...perfect to watch especially as the sun goes down and the moon begins to shine and light up the sky - as if i could ever ask for a more perfect setting!) It was a wonderful night...and rather than write about it, the photos from this crazy, fun, dancing night are above! I was so pleased that Frau Kinz (my Haus Frau from back when our program was based in the Lehen district of Salzburg) was able to come and join us...she wore a beautiful dirndl and looks fantastic (she never seems to age...must be the water from the Untersberg)! Such a perfect night!
